Learning Week 9-10, Term 3, 2012
Home-School
Partnership
Every
week this sheet will come home with activities to help support and consolidate
your child’s learning at school. Remember Reading takes priority. Poetry, spelling, word families, Smart
Words and writing all reinforce learning done in Reading. This year children will also have a Maths
Workbook with set tasks to be completed that correspond with your child’s
learning in class. Have a look in your
child’s book, talk to your child about what they are learning. If you have any
concerns or are unable to complete tasks talk to your child’s teacher. Teachers appreciate parent feedback in books
as to what is working and successes you have had.
Thank
you for your continued support.

I will follow up on this.
ENGLISH
Reading
Complete reading log every night detailing
the amount of time you have spent reading.
Children fill in the details, including pages, parents just need to
sign. 20
minutes a night is expected.
Please
use the fluent readers sheet to ask your child questions about the text they
are reading. You can give your
children specific questions and get them to record the answers in their Home
Learning Book.
Spelling
10
words to learn at home each week
Smart
Words
This
program covers grammar, spelling rules and is essential to helping children
become better writers and readers.
Please discuss these words with your children, what sounds are they
hearing, what rules are they using, reinforce plurals, endings etc.
Correct punctuation and spelling
should be use at all times when completing these sheets.

and subtraction up to 100
All

Multiplication
and division family of facts Children need to be
learning and revising times tables every night. They should be able to say the answer
instantly to any times table in any order.
Please help your child achieve this.
Practice equations set out like: 20 +
= 55, and subtraction examples as well.

Please
focus on fractions, addition, subtraction multiplication, division, basic

Telling the time on
analogue and digital clocks continues to be difficult for some children. Please find any opportunities at home for
children to tell the time, or to work out how long something is going to
take. Get children to use 24 hour
clocks to tell the time.
Communication
All information and notices are now
going out on School Links. If you are
not linked up with this, please see Karen in the office urgently otherwise

Agriculture Day
Registration closes
this Friday. No late entries are
accepted. Spare forms are available
from the office.
Registration Forms for animals and
seeds have been sent home. Forms are
to be returned to the office before Friday 14 September.
Thank
you for all the Jolly Jars! They are
still being accepted if you couldn’t make the deadline last week.
Stationery
We
are still missing a number of essential items that make the school day a lot
easier. Please make sure your child
has a ruler, pencil, blue pen, and
rubber. A number of children are
bringing their own dictionaries that are at a level suitable for them which
has been fabulous.
Some
children need new Home Learning Books, Pads and writing books. Children have been told to organise
this. Year 4 students should have it
written in their individual diary.
Please see me if you are unsure what book to purchase.
Brrrr..It’s Cold
We
have started our Agriculture Day technology project. Thank you to all the parents who discussed
this with their children. We have had
some very interesting ideas. They need
to do the research about similar products at home (refer to the letter glued
into Home Learning Books). Get your
child to bring all their information to school or email it to me as the
project is being done in their Integrated Studies book. At home they are also working on a title
page for their brief. Learning that is
not finished in class may be sent home for completion.
Behaviour
In
Room 10 we have been revisiting the school’s behaviour policies. Room 10 has
in–class management strategies for behaviour.
As part of PB4L it is also important that repeated behaviours are
tracked by the school. As a result of
this, children have been advised that if they have three warnings for
behaviour in a day, they will be asked to complete a Think Sheet which will
come home to you. Please read these,
comment if necessary, sign and send back to school. If Think Sheets are being completed for the
same behaviour, it will help me to put some strategies in place to change the
behaviour, with your support.
Room 10 Blog
We
now have a blog. It is very new and
will be developed as we get better at using it. The address for the blog is mssholson.blogspot.com. Type this address into the address bar on
Google and you should get to it. The
children know what it looks like.
Student
From
Monday we will have Vicki Cartwright in our class. Vicki is doing her practicum with us and
will be a great asset in the classroom.
Please
bring in your barcodes
from McCain frozen vegetable packets so
that we can get enough to buy some gardening products.
Save
your Meadow
Fresh stickers so that we can get
new sports gear for the school. .
Thank
you for your ongoing support.
