Working On Our Writing

Most mornings of the week, a small group of students are working on learning their letters and sounds so that they can write words without having to think what the letter looks like.  We are making great progress and we can all write at least one sentence by ourselves.  We use all sorts of equipment to help us learn our letters.

Farewell Whaea Zia

On Friday we said farewell to Whaea Zia.  She has been helping us with our learning for the last five weeks.  Good luck Whaea Zia!

The Finished Dioramas

We were very proud of our Inquiry presentations.  Now you can see close-ups of the finished dioramas.  These showed the habitat of our chosen animal, their prey, predators and where possible an adaptation the animal had made.

Volume and Capacity

Even though it poured with rain we got the water out and tried to solve some problems about volume and capacity.  We did create a bit of a flood and Ms Sholson had to do some mopping up with some old towels, but it was a fun way to figure out our volume and capacity problems.  There were a few tricks that we discovered when we were comparing the shape of the container with how much water they held.  The tall containers looked like they held more than the shorter, fatter containers because the water went higher, but this was not always true.

Sharing Our Learning

Wow, we did it.  Room 11 you are amazing.  On Friday we had mums, dads, grandmas, our Team Leader and our Deputy Principal in to share our learning.  We were a little bit nervous but we put on a fabulous performance answering questions about our learning. We got some great feedback and felt really proud of our achievements.

Thank you to everyone who came to see us!

Sharing the Planet, Part 3 - Building our Dioramas

Room 11 has been very engaged in building our dioramas.  To be successful, we had to build a habitat for the animal we had chosen to research. We had to show their prey, predators and adaptations they may have made.  Check out how we are going.  We need to have them ready to share with our parents on Friday 10 June. We hope all our parents and maybe grandparents will come to hear our presentations.

Heavy or Light

We were given two identical plastic bags.  We had to find objects around the room and put them in our bags. We then had to decide if they were heavy or light.

Lucie shares her ideas about the weight of her bags with the rest of her group.

Jesse, Finn and Flynn decided that their big dice and the plastic threading blocks weighed the same! They were very proud of their result.
